Museums Galleries Scotland has released details of their September 16 conference – Collaborating to Compete. The line-up reveals a packed programme of speakers and breakout sessions that highlight inspirational examples of best practice in the 21st century. The programme pivots around three central themes: new partnerships; sustainability and entrepreneurship.

Delegates from the cultural, heritage and the third sectors will take part in a stimulating day where consideration of new ways of working is actively encouraged. Sessions cover several emerging concepts – from ‘Museumpreneurs’ to how to build ‘happy social enterprises’. Dynamism is carried right through to the closing stages of the conference via Japan’s latest craze, Pecha Kucha, where speakers tell their story in 20 slides for 20 seconds.

Joanne Orr, CEO, Museums Galleries Scotland said:
“We are proud to host our first event on this scale and delighted to offer such an inspirational programme. The conference is a great opportunity to discuss best practices in the 21st century and we look forward to welcoming stimulating speakers from around world. Collaborating to Compete will bring like-minded people together to be inspired, encouraged and think about ways to collaborate – not only to overcome the current economic challenges – but to shape a sustainable and successful future. It’s an opportunity to come together and discuss the burning issues.”

Collaborating to Compete will take place at the Surgeons Hall, Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh on Friday 16 September 2011. Tickets cost from £55 to £85.
