Focus shifts to national strategy delivery plan as roadshows come to a successful end

< Back to news listing

Over the last two months, museums and galleries across the country have been coming together to discuss how their work can deliver the National Strategy at events organised by Museums Galleries Scotland. Common themes that have emerged include the importance of building partnerships and working collaboratively, skills sharing and development, the vital role of advocacy in raising the sector’s profile and engaging stakeholders.

As the final event at Glasgow on 11 September closed, the focus for MGS now shifts to gathering the essential information from the sector, via Delivery Plan Questionnaires, to help shape the Delivery Plan and inform MGS’s service offer, including investment, based on the sector’s needs.

Joanne Orr, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland said:
“The roadshows have been a very positive experience and encouraged a lot of animated discussion. We have had some excellent feedback from attendees and found this direct contact with such a large part of the sector extremely helpful and appreciated by participants. A major outcome has been people sharing their experiences about how they are overcoming economic challenges. The sector is full of ideas; they are very engaged and want to do their bit for the Delivery Plan. So right now it is vital that museums send us their completed questionnaires so together we can get the first Delivery Plan up and running.”

Commenting after the Glasgow roadshow, Sue John, Enterprise Development Manager at Glasgow Women’s Library, said:

“I have found today really useful. I feel a lot more confident that we can meet each aim efficiently and that we will be able to contribute to the National Strategy in a meaningful way.”

If your organisation has not yet submitted a Delivery Plan Questionnaire to MGS please download a copy from http://bit.ly/QcR8PE and return to strategy@museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk by 28 September, 2012.

The next steps in rolling out the National Strategy will be the publishing of the first delivery plan in November 2012 to cover a six month period. This will be followed up with a two year delivery plan in April 2013 which coincides with when MGS will become the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries.

The National Strategy roadshows attracted 126 attendees representing 87 organisations. Some of the roadshow participants have shared their thoughts about the day, the development of the National Development Body and delivery plan and the challenges they face – they are available to view at http://bit.ly/SgFa8V
