In December 2010 the Minister for Culture, Fiona Hyslop, invited Museums Galleries Scotland to become the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries – the establishment of which was a recommendation by the Think Tank.
The national strategy will inform the business plan of the National Development Body for Scotland’s Museums.
In March 2011 Museums Galleries Scotland’s members agreed in principle that the organisation can start the work needed to take on this new role.
Museums Galleries Scotland is currently planning for a period of transition as it moves towards taking on the functions of a National Development Body.
