National Strategy Consultation

Towards the end of 2010, MGS was invited to draft a National Strategy for Scotland's Museums and Galleries.

In order to ensure that this strategy reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire sector, the input of museums and galleries and partners beyond the sector is essential.

There are two ways to contribute to the consultation. This is the opportunity for you to have your say.

Online consultation

The online survey can be accessed at:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/67ZZFHN

Or you can download the questions in pdf format.

Before answering the questions in the online survey, please read the consultation document.

The online consultation will run from 16 September - 8 November 2011.

Consultation events

Friday 14 October 2011: Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. 2-5pm

Wednesday 2 November 2011: Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. 2-5pm

The consultation meetings will be a chance for more in-depth discussions of the issues outlined in the consultation document than the online consultation allows. The format of the events will include both plenary sessions and break-out groups where a range of opinions and views can be discussed.

Numbers are limited at these events. To register an interest in attending, please email strategy@museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk

The consultation for the National Strategy was officially launched at the Collaborating to Compete conference on 16 September by the Cabinet Secretary for Culture.

What next?

Once the consultation period has closed, all comments received, both online and at the consultation events, will be collated, analysed and considered in preparing the National Strategy for Scotland's Museums and Galleries.

The strategy is due for publication in early 2012.
