Since 2007-08, MGS has provided collections research and travel bursaries to curators and collections managers (honorary and paid) in our full member museums who are interested in developing their skills and increasing their knowledge of an under documented or researched collection in their care.
In the past, awards have enabled museum staff to spend time with collections specialists, visit other museums and sites (in the UK and internationally), undertake residential study courses and attend conferences, and research other collections in order to share expertise or improve access to their own collections.
The deadline for applications to the 2011-12 programme has now passed, with staff and volunteers from Dunblane Museum, Glasgow Life Museums, West Dunbartonshire Council and the Museum of the Black Watch successfully securing awards.
Case studies below feature some of the successful projects to have been carried out over recent years. To find out more, or to discuss your ideas for collections research, please feel free to contact our Collections Development Manager.
