The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust Fund

The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust provides funding to Museums Galleries Scotland to distribute to full members through the process of our Small Grants scheme. The Trust assists development in member museums with paper conservation and collections care projects such as:

  • collection condition surveys
  • conservation treatment
  • tailored staff coaching or training sessions

What are the Trust’s priorities for a project?

Projects which aim to improve the conservation and care of collections and/or capacity of your service through coaching and training are welcomed. Priority is given to smaller independent museums.

How much can I apply for?

The maximum project total is £5,000 and priority applicants (small independent museums) can apply for up to 100%. We will regularly post information on deadlines on our website and in Connect.

How to apply

The process is the same as that for our Small Grants:

  • Please go to our Small grants pages for information on the closing dates for applications. The fund is limited so if as a small independent museum you wish to apply for 100% funding, we advise you to apply in Round 1 and Round 2 if you can.
  • It is a condition set by The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust that all work is undertaken by The Scottish Conservation Studio.
  • Apply using the small grants form.
  • Make sure you follow the Application Guidelines which apply to The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust Fund on the right of this page.
  • Your application will be assessed in the same way as our Small Grants.
