What are Main Grant priorities for 2012-13?

 

  1. Business development: Projects which assist you to increase the opportunities for income generation and develop and enhance the skills of your staff and volunteers, including management and leadership skills.
  2. Audience development: Projects which assist you to understand your existing  audiences and reach new audiences
  3. Product development: Projects which develop your core product of collections and services

We would expect that most projects will meet more than one priority. 

What are the criteria for the Main Grant scheme?

  • The applicant must be a full member of Museums Galleries Scotland.
  • The project should mainly benefit Accredited museums/galleries.
  • You can apply for between £5,000 and £30,000.
  • Our policy is to fund at 50%.  If you request more than 50% the application will be assessed against aditional criteria, as detailed within the application form.
  • Projects must be completed within the financial year you are applying in, with the exception of applications for posts.  Our financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March. 
  • As such your project end date should not run into the next financial year.
  • Although the project can go on to the end of the financial year, all claims for funding must be made by the 11 March 2013.
  • We are unable to fund retrospective projects.
  • You must be able to secure the additional match funding required.
  • In kind contribution cannot be accepted as match funding and should not be included in the total project cost calculations. 
  • Other sources of Museums Galleries Scotland funding cannot be used as match funding for a project i.e. Recognition funding, Show Scotland grants.
  • In normal circumstances contributions should be assured prior to the project commencing or by 31 August 2012, whichever comes first.
  • We can provide funding for posts to implement a particular project but our funding will not extend beyond 31 March 2013.
  • Applications for posts must be accompanied by a job description, post work plan and outline Learning and Development plan.
