Staff structure

The organisation is headed by a CEO and from April 2012 will be made up of four teams: Communications and Relationship Development, Research and Development, Investment and Enterprise and Corporate Development.

  • Communications and Relationship Development:  responsible for external programmes and events (such as Festival of Museums), marketing, publications, including digital media, PR and partnership and relationship building.
  • Research and Development: responsible for research and building the evidence base, creating development opportunities for the sector, quality standards and frameworks.
  • Investment and Enterprise:  responsible for finance, investment (grants and programmes), new business initiatives and workforce development.
  • Corporate Development: reporting directly to the CEO, responsible for Board administration,  governance, HR and internal administration.

Hours of work

The normal working week is one of 36.25 hours with a minimum unpaid lunch break of half an hour. Museums Galleries Scotland operates a flexi time system.

Annual leave

Annual leave entitlement for full-time employees is 25 working days plus 10 public holidays, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ continuous service. (Leave is calculated pro-rata for part-time employees.)

Pension scheme

Museums Galleries Scotland adheres to Scottish local authority terms and conditions and is part of a contributory pension scheme, the Lothian Pension Fund, administered by Edinburgh City Council.

You will automatically be entered into the Lothian Pension Fund unless you notify Museums Galleries Scotland in writing that you do not wish to become a member.

Location

Staff are based in a modern open-plan working environment in central Edinburgh. In March 2012, MGS moved to Waverley Gate, Edinburgh.
