An innovative family-friendly museum exploring the history and environment of West Lothian, and telling the story of Scotland’s shale oil industry. Interactive displays, games, and a programme of special events ensure plenty to keep all the family smiling. The museum lies at the heart of green riverside site that extends for almost a mile and includes an 18th century watermill and a farm steading. This is home to a range of friendly traditional livestock farm animals that are milked, fed or handled during the course of each day. There are acres of space in which to play and learn, with field crops, farm machinery, an orchard, quoiting green and archaeological dig. There are tractor rides around the outlying fields, a narrow-gauge railway, a variety of play areas, both indoors and out, and an excellent tearoom.
