The Atholl Country Life Museum opened in the old school Blair Atholl in 1982 (Registered Scottish Charity #SCO35882 since 2004)and is a unique collection of information, photographs and artefacts from the local area and local people which ties in to stories and displays of how they were used in their homes and work places in the villages and surrounding glens. Road, rail and postal services, pastimes, farming, school, kirk, smiddy, wildlife and the vet are some of the wide-ranging topics covered. There is Scotland’s only stuffed Highland cow, Trinafour Post Office reconstructed, a local roadman’s home-made contraption that he used to paint the first white lines on his beat near the Queen’s View. There are many stories of local personalities, such as Sgt. Major Donald MacBeath of the Atholl Highlanders, gamekeeper, hero of the Crimean war and admired by Queen Victoria.
