Our Collection

Human History

This collection covers archaeology, social history, industrial history, numismatics and costume. The archaeological material includes Noelithic, Bronze Age and Iron AGe items from local sites - notably a number of late 19th century discoveries of Neolithic Beacharra ware, a jet necklace and bracelet, a jet belt slider, foo vessels and a range of bone and iron artefacts from later prehistoric sites.

There is a range of social and industrial history material, including items related to the fishing industry, weaponry, ship models and half-models, as well as domestic items such as matches, razors and candle snuffers from Campbeltown. This section also includes a small number of 19th century medical and dental instruments.

There are a few tokens and coins, a variety of carved stonework and querns and a few items of costume.

Natural Sciences

This collection includes mostly Victorian mounted birds and mammals (around 100 specimens), relating to Kintyre; marine shells and other invertebrates; Minerals, rocks and fossils; bird's eggs.

Photographs of local scenes and people.

Archives

Documents and records relating to the local area.

Fine Art

This collection includes items given to the museum by the Scottish Arts Council Gifting Scheme.
