The archaeological material includes Prehistoric, medieval and later artefacts, including a gold finger ring found near Kennet and assemblages from excavations at Sauchie Tower. There is a substantial collection of W & J A Bailey's Alloa Pottery, which began in the 1780s, though its heyday was from 1856 until the late 19th century. The collection is representative of the wide range of forms which the pottery produced - it boasted of always having 100,000 teapots in stock - from gaudy majolica cheese dishes, bread plates and spittoons to jet ware and blue mazarine tea pots and tea kettles. The artefacts from Paton and Baldwin's Kilncraigs Mill, founded by John Paton in 1814, together with building plans and other documents, is probably the best surviving collection from a wool-spinning mill in Britain. There is also a substantial social history collection, with wedding dresses from 1911 to the 1980s, 20th century day clothes and a wide range of items reflecting the changes in daily life during the last century. The art collection includes works by several Scottish artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Horatio McCulloch, Alberto Morrocco, Robin Philipson and David McClure, as well as drawings and oils by the Alloa-born artist David Allan (1744-1796.
