
Fine Art
This collection consists mainly of work by minor Scottish artists, including several pieces by the local artist, Alex Gibson, and an increasing amount of contemporary local work.
Archaeology
This collection consists of medieval material from departmental excavations, with much smaller quantities of Roman and prehistoric material.
Social History
These collections are wide ranging in most aspects of social history: (1) Domestic life - housing and food implements; (2) Community life - local and cultural traditions, law and order and Burgh material; (3) Personal life - costume, souvenirs and memorials; (4) Working life - small agricultural collection and a few mining objects.
Numismatics
This is a small collection covering Roman, medieval and contemporary coinage, as well as trade tokens.
Ethnography
This is a small collection of objects mainly from Africa.
Archives
This collection consists entirely of the Cumbernauld House papers, which were deposited by the Burns family in 1977. It includes maps and plans and the oldest known drawings of much of what is now Cumbernauld.
