Glasgow Museums Resource Centre is home to a vast collection of objects from around the world. Although Glasgow Museums has nine museums, only display a tiny fraction of the collection can be displayed at any one time. The rest is stored at GMRC, a publicly accessible museum store.

Housed within GMRC, the Open Museum is Glasgow Museums Community Outreach Department. It offers a wide range of services, including reminiscence and handling kits and touring displays, and also offers advice and assistance to local organisations wishing to stage their own exhibitions and events.
