Archaeology
The collections include evidence of human activity in the area dating back to prehistory. The Antonine wall traverses the district and there are several associated forts, making Roman archaeology particularly important in the area. Artefacts (or manuports) and biological specimens from the period before 1707 are acquired as archaeological items to be preserved as evidence of the cultural history of the peoples that have lived in the area presently administered by Falkirk Council. Falkirk Museums also acquire and produce detailed site records as appropriate and maintain a register of archaeological and historic sites, structures and findspots within Falkirk district, known as the Sites and Monuments record.
