John McDouall Stuart (1815-1866), the first explorer to cross Australia, was born in this house. The small museum describes his harrowing journeys and the Australian wilderness. It is the starting point for self-guided tours round this attractive burgh and its historic harbour.

The museum will not be opening this year (2010). A display of materials from the museum will become a permanent installation at Dysart Town House after its refurbishment.
