Our Collection

Social History

This collection encompasses four main areas: (1) Community life; (2) Domestic and family life from medieval times to the present day; (3) Personalia and costume, including civic and ceremonial costume and examples of working and occupational dress; (4) Working life, including trade union, political and friendly society banners and regalia.

In particular the collection comprises objects, photographs and tape recordings relating to the trades, crafts and local industries, and to the every day life in general of Queensferry and Dalmeny, and their people. There are also objects relating to the Queensferry Passage and the building of the Forth rail and road bridges.
