The Dick houses the majority of East Ayrshire’s museums and arts collections and its largest exhibition spaces. The museum galleries offer rich and fascinating displays- the natural world is represented in the Natural Sciences galery by fossils, minerals, taxidermy specimens of birds and animals, including a duck billed platypus. The ground floor galleries host a series of innovative and prestigious exhibitions by contemporary artists and makers, while the Young People’s Gallery features work by school pupils and other groups from the area. The North Museum also hosts exhibitions on a variety of themes including works from our own collections and important touring exhibtions from national and international institutions.
The South Museum houses a large local history collection which brings alive the history of the area over many centuries. You can also view a time capsule which was found in the foundations during recent renovations. Discover the articles which were placed inside over 100 years ago when the Dick was built.
