New partnership to support Scottish museums announced

< Back to news listing

Museums Galleries Scotland and The Collections Trust are delighted to announce a new partnership which celebrates a shared vision for Scotland’s museums and galleries. The partnership builds on many years of working together and will take forward both organisations’ aim of making the collections in Scotland’s museums and galleries available for use and enjoyment by everyone.

The two organisations will work together to encourage the development of the Scottish museums and galleries sector in the areas of collections and digital content, and will increase efficiency and effectiveness in the work programmes of both organisations.

The aims outlined by the partnership include encouraging collaborations in UK-wide and international digital projects and programmes and use of SSN Connect. Supporting the development of the Collections Link website to provide free access to Collections Management standards, guidelines and information is another key facet of the partnership.

Museums Galleries Scotland and The Collections Trust will mark their partnership at a celebratory event which will take place in Scotland in February 2010.

Jane Robinson, Head of Museum Development at Museums Galleries Scotland, commented,
“I am delighted that Museums Galleries Scotland is advancing our genuine collaboration with The Collections Trust, augmenting a partnership which is built on mutual respect for one another’s resources, programmes and initiatives. The collaboration presents added value for both our organisations and will foster important networking opportunities that will bring immense benefits to our members and will encourage deeper sector participation in future digital initiatives.”

Alex Dawson, Collections Trust Head of Programmes, commented, “The Collections Trust and Museums Galleries Scotland have developed a strong partnership over recent years, and we are looking forward to working together to further our shared aim of enhanced and effective use of collections by the public.”

Further information about the agreement is available on The Collections Trust and Museums Galleries Scotland websites.
