The Mackintosh building was completed in two stages between 1899 and 1909 and Tuesday 15th December 2009 marks 100 years since the official opening of the Mackintosh Building. The School is organising special events to commemorate the centenary and films about the art school will be projected on to the side of the building.
A centenary scroll and commemorative door plaque will also be unveiled.
The Charles Rennie Mackintosh collection of Glasgow School of Art was named as a Recognised Collection of National Significance last October. The Collection boasts work by the School’s most celebrated alumnus and includes items of furniture, watercolours, drawings and other decorative art objects by Mackintosh.
