‘A Taste of Europe’ is an exciting EU-funded project looking at food production and our attitudes towards changing methods across Europe.
From 9th February (evening) to 12th the Scottish Fisheries Museum is the host of the next working group meeting which is planning for the 2011 launch of the project. Previous meetings have taken place in Sweden and Slovenia.
Nineteen delegates will be arriving to be welcomed by the Provost of Fife, Frances Melville, at an evening reception on 9th. They will be coming from Estonia (potatoes), Finland (bread), Sweden (milk), Portugal (olive oil), Slovenia (honey), Czech Republic (beer), Denmark (pork/pigs), Hungary (cereals) and Scotland (fish).
10th will be spent at the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther and the 11th at MUSA in St Andrews with the last day back in Anstruther with a guided tour of the East Neuk, finishing at local food producer Fisher and Donaldson. Social events include meals at The Cellar restaurant and Anstruther Fish Bar sampling local seafood specialities.
In 2011 there will be an exhibition opening jointly in all nine countries and a series of related events and workshops on the food themes. These will examine the way production has changed, our varying tastes, attitudes to ethical food production and sustainability and whether we are prepared to pay for the benefits of these.
