Museums Galleries Scotland is pleased to announce details of our revamped events weekend – the Festival of Museums.
The Festival of Museums is all about visitors finding something exciting, entertaining and surprising anytime during day or night at Scotland’s museums and galleries big events weekend.
The events will bring museums to life and be full of colour, excitement and provide a great day – or night – out. In 2011 the Festival of Museums will take place 13th, 14th and 15th May 2011. We invite all museums and galleries to take part.
The Festival of Museums replaces Show Scotland and has been developed on the foundations of all the good work that went into creating what was Scotland’s first nationwide programme of museum events.
We felt it was time for a refresh as the museum events landscape has moved on since Show Scotland started in 2006. We now have lots more events taking place internationally to celebrate museums during the month of May, including Museums at Night organised by Culture 24. We think that it all makes sense for us to work together to promote the fantastic experience that museums and galleries across the UK offer to visitors.
The spirit of Show Scotland lives on, however, as we have been careful to keep the bits favored by visitors and event organisers. We have retained the focus on the staging of fun, quality events and we are still offering museums and galleries, who are eligible to apply, grants towards costs of your event.
Please visit the Festival of Museums pages on our website for details on taking part.
