About the Event

Do you have bird specimens or bird eggs in your collection? Would you like to develop the basic knowledge and skills required to assist you in curating and caring for your bird and egg collections?

This workshop aims to develop participants’ confidence in working with the bird and egg specimens in their collections. The course will look at bird specimens and bird eggs likely to be found in Scottish collections and focus on best practice in curating and caring for this material. Topics covered include labelling and marking, storage, packing and handling, cleaning and pest management, legal and licensing issues, display and acquisition and disposal.

Participants are welcome from any type of collecting organisation with relevant collections but the course is not aimed at staff with in-depth knowledge of the subject. Priority will be given to applicants who can immediately implement the knowledge gained following course attendance.

Following this workshop participants should:

  • Have gained basic knowledge of good practice in curating and caring for the bird specimens and bird eggs in their collection.
  • Be aware of the legal and licensing issues relating to this type of material.
  • Know where to go for further information and advice.
