Created and co-ordinated by Museums Galleries Scotland, Festival of Museums encourages Scotland’s museums to provide visitors with the opportunity to enjoy exciting, entertaining and surprising day or night events at museums and galleries over one weekend. MGS works in partnership with Culture 24 / Museums at Night which takes place over the same weekend.
Festival of Museums seeks to broaden the appeal of museums and galleries and incentivises visitors to learn about and get involved with their local area’s museums and history.
We encourage you to be ambitious with your plans as exciting events will help you to attract visitors.
MGS offers Festival of Museums grants which are available to Accredited museums in Scotland.
The fund is designed to support museums to deliver ambitious events that will be part of the Festival of Museums 2014 programme. We will also support staff training costs where the training is helping to build skills in the areas relevant to event planning, marketing, PR and sponsorship.
You can apply for between £300 and £1,500. We require a minimum of 25% match funding. We do not want funding to be a barrier to participation so please contact us if you are having difficulty in raising money. The application deadline is 2nd December. Download information about the fund and the application form from the MGS website.
Festival of Museums sharing and planning workshops are planned for November 2014. See that page for details.
