Congratulations to Bragela Hornal - the first trainee from Heritage Horizons to be employed in the sector. Bragela will join City of Edinburgh in October 2015 working at Lauriston Castle.
Trainees will be with host museums 2nd Feb 2015 - 29th Jan 2016
Our Hosts in the Heritage Horizons Traineeship programme are:
Funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund, The Heritage Horizons Traineeship Programme will provide the opportunity for non-graduates from a range of backgrounds to attain an SVQ level 3 vocational qualification in Museums and Galleries Practice alongside workplace learning during a 12 month paid placement in a host museum. The trainees will have the combination of a qualification and the confidence of work-readiness on completion of the programme.
At the heart of the programme are the non-graduate trainees individually learning core museum skills from existing practitioners in the workplace, framing that learning within the parameters of the vocational qualification. All trainees will collectively take part in a learning programme focusing on knowledge and skills for their career enhancement and the sector’s sustainability.
The SVQ 3 in Museums and Galleries Practice has been created by extracting the most relevant elements from existing National Occupational Standards and further shaped to provide a vocational route specifically for the Scottish museums sector. Further information on the qalification can be found on the SQA website.
