MGS Interns Programme

The MGS Interns Programme was a sector partnership supported by HLF ‘Skills for the Future’ Fund, MGS, and participating host museums and heritage organisations across Scotland.

The 2011-12 programme was a great success with 100% of interns going into suitable employment or higher education. Download the evaluation of the 2011-12 programme.

Visit the 2013-14 Interns programme page for more information.

The programme supports 20 paid one year internships which provide a high quality work-based skills development opportunity for new entrants to the sector workforce. The programme addresses identified gaps in core skills, each focussing workplace learning in one of the areas of; collections care and management, digitisation, public programmes, and volunteer development management.

In addition, as part of the scheme Interns have access to a specially commissioned central training programme for interns covering management, leadership, and enterprise skills for wider sector awareness and understanding of future sustainability needs.

The programme aims to contribute to a wider diversity in the workforce by creating alternative routes into employment, building the capacity of the sector to deliver effective work-based learning and development at graduate entry level.
