When a museum has been awarded Provisional Accreditation status, they will receive a list of Required Actions that they must complete before they can be awarded Full Accreditation. The museum will be given a maximum of 12 months to complete the Required Actions.
Areas for Improvement are sometimes given to museums when they are awarded Full Accreditation. These Areas for Improvement are recommendations for how the museum might focus future development. Museums feed back progress on their Areas for Improvement through the Accreditation Return.
If a museum has been Accredited for longer than six months, they will be asked to submit an Accreditation Return every 3-4 years. These Returns monitor the museum’s maintenance of the standards. From November 2011, museums will also be able to use the Returns to show compliance with new requirements in the 2011 Standard. Accreditation Returns will be issued between 2011 and 2014. Achieving Accreditation should not be the end of the story. Your museum can build on its success to work from the standard to good and best practice. Our development strategies and action frameworks will direct and signpost you to information on good and best practice.
Museums with Full Accreditation will also be eligible to participate in a new Quality Improvement System (QIS). Information on the Quality Improvement System can also be found under Programmes.
