Who assesses the applications?

Museums Galleries Scotland is the assessing organisation for all museums in Scotland, except national museums. Applications are assessed by our Standards Managers.

Once an application has been submitted, it takes around 2-3 months to assess and prepare it for the Accreditation Panel.

After the application has been assessed, each application is taken to an Accreditation Panel organised by Arts Council England (ACE). The panel make the decision to award Provisional or Full Accreditation. Each panel has around five representatives from museums across the UK, including Scotland. There are usually six panel meetings per year. The assessor from Museums Galleries Scotland also attends the panel meeting.
