QIS pilot

The QIS pilot ran between September 2009 and March 2010.  MGS appointed consultant Tim Dent, The Sport and Leisure Consultancy to run the pilot.  During this process, we worked intensively with three Local Authorities (Falkirk, Fife and Orkney), one Trust (Culture and Sport Glasgow), one independent Trust (Auchindrain Trust), and one University Museum (the Hunterian Museum), to test the processes involved.

We tested the system with other independent museums. However, given many independent museums are currently going through Accreditation, we have looked at simpler methods of getting wider feedback. These will include:

  • Inclusion of independent museums in Local Authority testing
  • Focused workshop with independent museums to test the scheme and get feedback to inform development.

As a result of this we held a further consultation event with Independent Museums and revised the framework.

We are currently considering the next steps for QIS.

We held a consultation meeting with the National Collections to also incorporate their views into the development of the scheme.

All this feedback will be incorporated into the final development of the scheme before it is rolled out more widely. As part of this we will produce comprehensive guidance and toolkits to make it as easy as possible for museums to gather all the information required.

Those who took part in the pilot were provided with a QIS pilot toolkit - a range of draft materials to support them. This can also support local authorities taking part in How Good is our Culture and Sport.
