
Herbert led Edinburgh museums for many years and is an experienced arts strategist. Having worked in museums since the 1960s, Herbert has risen from Museum Assistant at Dundee Museum to Director of Culture and Leisure for the City of Edinburgh Council. His achievements include the creation of the City Art Centre, the People’s Story and the extension of the Museum of Childhood. He has written widely on museum matters and his strategic thinking has affected organisations well beyond Edinburgh. He has served in a non-executive capacity on a wide range of government, academic and professional organisations.
