Scottish Migration Museum - The Timing

Museums Galleries Scotland hopes that the Scottish Migration Museum programme of locally-based activities will be developed to engage people and stimulate learning about the impacts of international cultures and Scotland’s influence abroad. The intended initiative strongly connects with a number of major events, particularly 2012 – 2014, that are designed to attract tourism and propel economic growth.

Particularly, in reaching out to the people with an affinity to Scotland, the Scottish Migration Museum is aligned with the aims of the 2014 Year of Homecoming, allowing Scotland’s cultural heritage institutions to work together as a partnership delivering lasting benefits. Homecoming 2014 is viewed as an important driver for Scotland’s tourism industry and the implementation of the Scottish Migration Museum as a cultural heritage programme and legacy for the year fits perfectly in this arena.
