Scotland’s collections reflect our culture, our identity and our stories. More than that, museums and galleries are our repositories for the future – nurturing, developing and reflecting back to us our collective footprints.
Museums and galleries in Scotland care for more than 12 million objects. From the smallest single collection to the vast content of Scotland’s largest museums, they all posses a priceless quality – the potential to inspire us.
Everyone can engage with this wonderful legacy, learning from it, enjoying it and helping to shape it.
Whether you volunteer in a local museum or are part of a larger organisation, we understand the demands and commitment required to care for collections. By working in partnership with the museums sector across the UK, Museums Galleries Scotland offers our members routes to support and advice on the many aspects of collections management and development.
We are sure you will want to revisit this area time and again. We can inform you about collections issues and will work with you to help promote and develop museum collections in Scotland.
To discuss any aspects of collections development contact either of our Collections Development Managers.
If you are a full member and are looking for funding support to carry out a collections development project, see our grants pages.
