Museums Galleries Scotland carries out research into areas of importance to the museums sector in Scotland.
This is a new area of work and we have just developed a Research and Evidence Framework, which gives our priorities, for example
• data on economic and social impact of museums sector
• evidence to present to funders and stakeholders
We evaluate our projects and programmes of work to ensure that they are meeting their objectives, and to assess their impact.
We have an in-house research team to run the research programme, both internal and external. For larger scale research and evaluation projects we work with consultants.
Both of these activities help us to build a picture of the valuable contribution museums and galleries in Scotland make to society.
We also work to help our members to record information about their own visitors and to measure their own success. Ideas on what information to collect and why can be found in the section on understanding your visitors.
