The following statistics are collected by central government. The figures are collected at regular intervals, so it is possible to identify trends and changes. Those statistics with a local area breakdown are particularly useful in enabling you to identify trends relevant to your area, which may differ to the national picture. The datasets for each survey are not always available, but each site gives information on those results which can be accessed.

Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics
Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics is the Scottish Governments on-going programme to improve the availability, consistency and accessibility of small area statistics in Scotland.
The Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics website is the main way in which the Scottish Government will disseminate the range of small area statistics including information on health, education, poverty, unemployment, housing, population, crime and social / community issues.
Scottish Household Survey
A survey designed to provide accurate, up-to-date information about the characteristics, attitudes and behaviour of Scottish households and individuals on a range of issues.
The Scottish Household Survey section on the Scottish Government website gives information about the survey as well as access to the published results.
Scottish Social Attitudes Survey
The Scottish Social Attitudes (SSA) survey has been designed as an annual Scottish sister survey to the British Social Attitudes survey. Like the British Social Attitudes series, the survey aims to chart and interpret attitudes on a range of social, political, economic and moral issues. The survey focuses mainly on people's attitudes but also collects details of their behaviour patterns, household circumstances and work.
Some reports based on the results of the Scottish Social Attitudes Survey are available on the Scottish Government website.
The Pupil Census
The Pupil Census covers all publicly funded schools in Scotland (local authority and grant-aided). Where a school has more than one department, for example a secondary school with a primary department, these are counted as separate schools. The census of independent schools is published separately and will be available on the Scottish Government website.
The 2008 results for the Pupils Census can be found on the Scottish Government website.
