FAQs for workforce development and training

This page aims to answer your frequently asked questions about a wide range of workforce development and training issues.

1. Can non members apply for an MGS training course?

Q. Can I attend a course on the Museums Galleries Scotland training programme even if I am not a member of Museums Galleries Scotland?

A. Yes of course you can, courses on the training programme are available to everyone.  However, please remember that we prioritise places for our members first, so non members who want to book onto a course may have to be placed on a waiting list.

2. Travel bursaries?

Q. I am a member of Museums Galleries Scotland, I want to attend a training course but I am not sure I will be able to get funding from my work to travel to the venue.

A. Members can apply for a travel bursary to help meet some or all of the costs of getting to a course by ticking the relevant box on their training course application form. Please visit the Grants Pages for information on other sources of funding.

3. Recruiting new volunteers

Q. I am looking to recruit some new volunteers for my small museum, where do I start?

A. You should start by contacting your local volunteer centre. It has a wealth of knowledge on the best ways to recruit, manage and retain volunteers in your local area. You may like to have a look at look at our Developing Volunteers and Volunteer Managers page for more information.

4. Is there funding available to help me develop a training course?
