Workforce Development Strategy

Workforce development is about offering a framework of guidance and support to help people and organisations reach their potential.

Our Workforce Development Strategy was published in 2005 and is currently under review. However, in the meantime, we are still using the objectives and action plan in the strategy as the basis for our work in this area. It provides a three-year vision and framework for workforce development in Scotland’s museums.

Four key areas have been identified for development of the workforce within the sector:

  • To enhance leadership in all its forms
  • To support staff through investment in education, skills and continuing professional development (CPD)
  • To develop and support volunteers and volunteer managers
  • To ensure diversity becomes part of the everyday operation of museums
