Lynne Halfpenny

Biography

Lynne has over 20 years experience of working in the cultural sector. During this period she has worked with the Commonwealth Institute, London, Renfrew District Council and since 1989 as an Arts Manager with the City of Edinburgh Council. In 2003, Lynne was appointed Head of Museums and Arts. Her role included development and implementation of the City’s Cultural Policy and artform strategies. She has worked particularly closely with Edinburgh’s festivals organisations and other strategic partners to build support for this sector over the last three years. Edinburgh has an impressive civic museums and galleries service, which is currently undergoing a major review. Lynne is also responsible for the Usher Hall re-development project.

In January 2007, Lynne assumed responsibility for the sports brief and as Head of Culture and Sport, Lynne and her team are working on an ambitious programme to make Edinburgh Europe’s most active city by 2020.
