Rachel Skene

Biography

Rachel Skene joined Highlands and Islands Enterprises in 2009 as Head of Tourism for Caithness and North Sutherland. Following a brief spell overseas, after graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in 2001, Rachel has been based in the North Highlands.

Rachel’s career to date has included roles as Researcher with the Mackay Country Project; Development Officer with Strathnaver Museum and Development Director with Timespan Heritage and Arts Centres, both independent organisations which function as key community cultural assets. Both these roles have involved significant work on fundraising from both the public and private sector; enhancing communications and marketing; increasing outreach and educational activity and improving standards of collections care and developing archival resources as well as overall business management. Rachel was Chair of the Highlands and Islands Museums Forum between 2004 and 2009, and during this time worked to increase the activity of the Forum through a number of projects; encouraging and supporting Members to work together and to share information to a greater degree.

Rachel’s has a strong interest in the area of rural economic development, and out with her role with HIE, Rachel continues to work with Strathnaver Museum as an Advisor and works with The Mackay Country Project on a voluntary basis.
