Neil Firth

Biography

Neil is Director of the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney. He has over twenty years experience in both the museums and arts sector. Since his appointment as Director in 19993 he has overseen the development of the Centre as both a museum and as a gallery for the promotion of contemporary visual arts. He led the Centre’s bid to secure Lottery awards to refurbish, extend and connect the Centre’s discrete buildings culminating in a multi-million pound project that has gained several architectural awards including the Andrew Doolan Award for the Best New Building in Scotland 2007.

He sits on the Orkney Arts Forum and on the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site Research Committee and has previously served as a member of the Scottish Arts Council Artist Awards Panel.
