We are very proud of our new brand. A lot of thought and work has gone into its formulation. A brand is much more than a name and a logo. A brand, at heart, is about an organisation's vision and mission, its aims and its values.
Over the next three years we will be 'breaking in' our new brand. We want our members and stakeholders to know who we are and what we strive for and how we intend to go about our business. So, in the spirit of accountability, which is one of our core values, here are the mainstays of Museums Galleries Scotland.
Our vision
Our mission
Our aims
Our values
Museums Galleries Scotland works with museums and galleries towards achieving a shared vision:
A welcoming museums and galleries sector that opens doors and celebrates collections, inspiring creativity, learning and enjoyment for all.
To achieve our vision Museums Galleries Scotland:
Provides a strategic lead and supports the development of the sector to unlock the potential of museums and galleries in Scotland.
We have five core aims, which have been developed in consultation with members, board and staff.
1 is about maintaining and increasing public investment to sustain the sector. It is also about increasing quality visits to museums and galleries. This will help grow our membership and pave the way for partnerships.
We believe it is vital that we get across to the widest possible audience the important role museums and galleries play in communities and in individual lives.
2 is about quality, sustainability and enhancing our visitors' experience. Based on the drive for continuous improvement to meet and exceed the expectations of our various audiences, this will ensure that our sector thrives and remains outward looking.
3 will help us to demonstrate accountability and transparency in our management of public monies. We want to ensure that we are responsive to and meeting members' needs; that we maintain and increase public investment; and that we inspire confidence through leading by example.
4 will help us, and the sector, produce strong arguments that influence government policy and increase public investment. It will help us to prioritise development resources and let us know when we are doing well.
5 is about strength in unity; it is about creating new opportunities through partnership; doing more with scarce resources and bringing added value and synergy to what we do and how we do it.
Again, through consultation, we have developed six core values. Their purpose is to give a focus and framework to the way we carry out our work and to help ensure best practice.
Accountable: which means we operate in a transparent way and take responsibility for all our actions.
Accessible: which means we are open to dialogue and ensure that our communications and policies are easily understood and accessible to all interested parties.
Empowering: which means we inspire a can-do attitude in everyone we serve.
Enabling: which means we provide the tools, training, advocacy and funding for our members to continually develop.
Progressive: which means we champion our sector with confidence, advocating and applying new technologies and thinking wherever appropriate.
Responsive: which means we act in accordance with the sector's primary needs and are always open to suggestions for improvement.
