‘Blether Together’: Decolonising the Curriculum

Supporting history teaching in secondary schools.

Event information

Date: 24 April 2024

Time: 15:30 – 17:00

Organiser: MGS & Education Scotland

Venue: Online

This ‘Blether Together’ event is organised by Museums Galleries Scotland and Education Scotland. The event is an opportunity for museums, galleries, and heritage organisations to engage with teachers and community learning and development (CLD) practitioners. The event will enable practitioners to update and discuss the latest developments in education settings and promote their resources to support teaching and learning.

This session will focus on museum’s learning resources for schools and communities including digital learning resources developed around the Curriculum for Excellence and decolonising the curriculum.

The theme of this session is ‘decolonising the curriculum’. Aimed at secondary school history teachers, CLD practitioners, and museum, gallery and heritage organisations, the session will address what it means for a museum to decolonise its collections, and how they go about this. Selected museums will present on good practice in the sector and discuss how secondary teachers might engage with this work in the curriculum.

We will also share the newly created ‘Marseum’ resource – a digital learning resource created by Daydream believers and MGS to support classroom teaching and learning with participants.

This meeting will be recorded and hosted on Zoom. Live captions will be available.
