Do you dread the moment in the board meeting when the finances come up on the agenda? Do you think – I won’t say anything – that’s not my area, and I don’t understand the management accounts anyway? Let us help take the fear away, so that you too can play your part in monitoring your organisation’s current financial position.
Every trustee has responsibility for overseeing the finances of your charity – not just the Treasurer or the lone trustee with finance skills on your board.
This short session will touch on your statutory legal duties in relation to finance including the year-end and audit requirements, but will mainly look at the sort of financial reports you might see at your board meetings and regularly throughout the year. We will help you to read a set of management accounts and look at what sort of information is likely to be included. We will discuss what sort of questions you should ask, and how to spot the warning signs. Restricted and unrestricted funds will be explained, as well as balance sheets, and how to interrogate the organisation’s annual budget.
Who is it for?
New trustees and those who would like to better understand and fulfil their financial responsibilities as board members.
