Do you have responsibility for acquiring items for your collection? Would you like to gain more confidence in making acquisitions at auction?
Join National Museums Scotland at an Edinburgh auction house for this half-day event to learn about all aspects of acquiring at auction. Delivered in partnership with Lyon & Turnbull, the event will feature valuable insights from auction house professionals, talks from museum staff with experience of successfully bidding at auction and advice on applying to the National Fund for Acquisitions.
What will the event cover?
This event will enable you to gain knowledge and confidence around making acquisitions at auction. It will cover:
- Auction house procedures and terminology, including a mock auction
- Auction house services including valuation
- Other museums’ experience of buying at auction
- Advice on applying to the National Fund for Acquisitions.
There will also be time to ask questions, meet peers from other museums and share learning.
Arrival and registration with tea and coffee will be from 9:30am. The talks will start at 10am and we will finish at 1pm.
Who is the training for?
This training is for people who:
- Work or volunteer for an organisation that holds a public collection in Scotland and
- Want to develop their knowledge and confidence in buying at auction for their organisation’s collection.
