Museums have long enjoyed a fruitful relationship with primary and secondary schools, working with the education sector to develop engaging content and vital resources for both on and off-site workshops. This event looks at the current landscape for school programmes, and explores how museums might adapt their programmes into the future.
The programme includes panel discussions, case studies and practice-led presentations on a diverse range of issues.
This event is aimed at educational and museum professionals in all four UK nations.
The programme includes:
- A panel discussion hosted by the Group for Education in Museums discussing how the learning landscape has changed in the past few years and what challenges the sector is facing and what opportunities may lie head. Delegates will hear how leaders in museum education are addressing the pressures that schools and teachers are facing and how learning teams can develop sustainable and equitable relationships with them.
- A case study from Lucy Maycock, Formal Learning Manager, the Horniman Museum & Gardens on its award-winning learning programme. Delegates will learn how to embed decolonisation across formal learning programmes, develop closer relationships with curatorial staff and support teachers and schools.
- A panel discussion on digital and hybrid learning resources. A panel of experts – including Rosie Barrett, Learning Director, Out of the Box and Laura Hutchinson, Education Officer, National Museums Northern Ireland – will explore what teachers want from museums’ digital provision and how to develop engaging resources for them.
A full programme will be available in due course.
Please note that this event will be recorded and available exclusively to delegates for three months. After that time, it will be made available to members on the Museums Association website.
MA aim to present a diverse range of speakers from across the UK and internationally at their one-day conferences. If you are interested in speaking at one of MA’s events, or have a project you’d like to see explored, please contact the Events Team.
