Young people’s social justice projects: Afternoon Cuppa Session

Join Kids in Museums for an informal virtual session to hear inspiring case studies from the three organisations who were shortlisted for the Best Museum Youth Project: Social Justice category, as part of the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Award 2025.
In this session, you will:
Learn more about the importance of social justice work with young people and hear inspiring from case studies from:
- Hannah Shury-Smith, Learning and Engagement Officer, plus Jayden McFarlane, member of the Youth Programme from the Black Cultural Archives, the category winners. They will talk about their Black LGBTQ+ project, which involved creating oral histories with elders from the local community.
- Angela Massafra, Learning and Access Curator, plus Iman Afaq, member of the Intercultural Youth Group at Glasgow Life Museums. They will share more about the anti-racism and decolonisation work the Youth Group has been involved with.
- Amy Hammett, Community Curator from Wiltshire Museum will talk about their work with young people from the local Youth Justice Service.
There will also be informal opportunities for attendees to discuss reflect on the session and share about their own work with young people.
