Learning and Engagement Volunteer at Museum of the Royal Regiment of Scotland

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for sharing knowledge to join our established team of Learning and Engagement volunteers at our museums in Edinburgh Castle. Our Learning programme is operated in partnership with The Museum of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, The Royal Scots Museum, and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum.

We are looking for new volunteers to join our existing team who assist the museum Learning Officer with the delivery of themed activities which contribute to the successful running of our school learning programme.

The role will involve presenting information to groups of school learners, object handling, and asking and answering questions. From time to time there may be opportunities to take part in other projects or activities, including assisting with community outreach sessions or drop-in craft activities.

Skills

• Good verbal communication skills 
• Feel comfortable talking to groups
• Presenting information to a small audience will be a key part of your role   
• Ability to work with groups of all ages and experiences,
• Enthusiasm for working with children and/or young people.

This role will give you the chance to show off some creativity and develop organisational skills. A passion for history and some knowledge of British military history is helpful, but not essential, as we’ll teach you everything you need to know about our Regiments once you’ve joined the team! Due to the nature of the role, the completion of an application to the Disclosure Scotland PVG scheme is an essential requirement for this role.
