This workshop will cover both pest management and object labelling, improving participants’ general awareness of the damage insects and other pests can cause to collections, and will provide specialist training in object labelling for collections staff who work with objects on a regular basis.
This session is designed to follow-on from our June learning symposium, Bright Sparks: Shining A Light On Museum Learning. During this session, through practical examples, we’ll work towards participants creating their own individual action plans for delivering a schools programme within a museum or gallery setting.

This workshop aims to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to handle, store and care for dress and textile collections. Topics covered will include object handling, condition checking, basic conservation care of textiles, measuring, packing and object numbering.
Museum objects are at high risk of accidental damage when they are being handled or moved. This workshop will share National Museums Scotland’s Object Handling guidelines and best practice for both object handling and packing. It will cover a wide range of object types and will offer guidance on when to consult a specialist.
