About the Event

This workshop aims to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to handle, store and care for dress and textile collections. Topics covered will include object handling, condition checking, basic conservation care of textiles, measuring, packing and object numbering. The day will include a short session looking at aspects of condition and basic care of textiles from a conservation perspective.

Participants will learn how to pack dress and textiles in a session which will also focus on storage solutions, as well as how to deal with difficult objects, during a practical exercise in the Dress and Textiles store at the National Museums Collection Centre.

Following this workshop participants should:

  • Have gained practical skills in object handling, condition checking, measuring and object numbering in relation to dress and textile collections
  • Have gained practical skills in packing and storing dress and textiles
  • Have an awareness of how to deal with problematic objects
  • Know where to go for further information and advice
