Steph Scholten

Steph is director of The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, the oldest public museum and the largest university museum in Scotland. He is an art historian with over 30 years of experience in the cultural sector. In The Netherlands, he worked for the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, for the National Institute for Conservation, at the National Museum of Antiquities and was director of the collections and museums of the University of Amsterdam.
His major research interest is in museum ethics, in topics such as deaccessioning and repatriation. Until recently, he was a member of EthCom, the standing committee on professional ethics of the International Council of Museums and vice chair of ICOM UMAC. In September, he was elected as a member of ICOM’s Executive Board.
