🌞Summer events and activities (whatever the weather)🌞
Find fun, low cost activities for all ages in museums this summer.
LGBTQIA+ heritage
- Take part in Pride at The Burrell on 13th July. There will be talks, tours, music, dance and family crafts.
- Visit the Unicorn exhibition at Perth Museum which includes seven new artworks exploring the unicorn as a modern symbol of the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Explore Glasgow through the Stride with Pride: LGBTQ Heritage Trail created by Glasgow Women’s Library’s History Detective volunteers.
- Join the National Mining Museum Scotland for a Museum Late on 13th July commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike. It begins with a screening of “Pride”, about the lesbian and gay activists who supported the British miners’ strike.
- We Move As A Murmuration is an intersectional exhibition at Timespan that delves into the entangled relationships between humans and birds. It includes queer processes of identification able to disrupt prevailing understandings of gender, sexuality and nature.
School holiday fun
- Visit the National Mining Museum Scotland for a Community Family Fun Day, 10th August. As well as access to the museum activities include bouncy castle, pony rides, and magic shows.
- From a summer arts and sketching school, to regular toddler craft and storytime sessions David Livingstone Birthplace has a range of events for families.
- There’s lots of hands on activities at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Aberdeen Maritime Museum from baby boogies to underwater robots.
- From June to August there’s weekly activities and events taking place at the Scottish Fisheries Museum with crafts, storytelling, and a little bit of science.
- Dumfries Museum has regular free craft sessions for families, including make your own wee tattie bogles.
